  • Hail to the West, Ancient Ones of Water,Bringers of Emotion and Change, Honor us with your presence here.  We welcome you!
  • Hail to the North, Ancient Ones of Stone, Bringers of Strength and Growth, Honor us with your presence here.  We welcome you!

Priestess:

  • Artemis, Goddess of the hunt, the wilderness and fertility, we call on you to witness our rite.  Hail and welcome!

Priest:

  • Apollo, God of Truth, healing, and the Sun, we call on you to witness this rite.  Hail and welcome!

Go to the center of the circle and light the Sun candle in the cauldron, or portable fire pit, while saying:

  • “I Light the candle to the Sun. This is the Beltane fire.  It represents the hilltop bonfires of our ancestors. The Bel fire is an invocation to the Sun God to bring blessing and protection for the coming year. This is sacred fire with healing and purifying properties.”

Priestess:

Take the dish of earth. Lay your hands on it and say:

  • “I bless and consecrate this earth,in the name of the Goddess. May this be sacred earth, set apart for magic.  For earth is of the Goddess, being her sacred body.  She is the Goddess of the Circle of Rebirth and the Mother of All Life.”

Priest:

Take a wooden wand and oil it with vegetable oil.

  • I consecrate this wand in the name of the Lord of the Day.The youthful, ardent one, the Lord of Life, the God of the Sun.

Pass it quickly through your the Bel fire, so it becomes charged with power.

Now put it on the dish of earth.

Priest and Priestess say together:

  • “As the wand is to the earth,so the male is to the female and the Sun to our blossoming world.  In union, they bring happiness.  May the God of Life give ___ {something you want, for example, peace on Earth} May the Goddess bring it forth!”

Let everyone get into a comfortable position for meditation

Priestess:

  • “Women, envision your sacral chakra.  This is symbolized as a white lotus within which is a crescent moon, with six orange petals. 6 being the number of the mother goddess, this chakra represents your ovaries, your adrenals, your creative force.  Close your eyes and picture the light from the fire streaming into this chakra.  See the orange blossom growing larger. Focus on this image for a while. Smell the scent and the freshness. See the color of the expanded lotus within you. Feel the strength and power of your own fully awakened abilities."

Say:

(have the women present repeat each line after you)

  • I am woman, strong to conceive and to create, to give birth and to tend.  As I am daughter of the Goddess, and blessed by the God, may I ___ (have them state their desire here)

Have them jump over the fire

  • “Feel the strength and creative force within the center of your being. See the power being channeled, flowing into the desire you have just voiced.  Open your eyes.  Always, the lotus is within you.”

Priest:

  • “Men, envision a bright flame. This burns within your sexual center.  It is your own male strength and energy which rises through your body to be released as giving or fertilizing power, in any form. It is this energy which is healing and creative like the shining Sun. Now see yourself sitting by a pond and there is a beautiful lotus bud floating in the water in front of you.

Say: (have men repeat after each line)

  • "I am man, and in my passion is beauty, in my warmth is life.  As I am son of the Goddess, and blessed by the God, I offer my strength and vitality to ____” (have them state their desire here)
  • Have them jump over the fire
  • “See the light pouring from you to the lotus causing it to blossom. Your flame is dampened by this effort. It has taken much out of you. You become aware that there is light coming toward you from the lotus. As it touches your sacral chakra it energizes you and your flame burns stronger than before. Open your eyes. The flame is always within you.”
